Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1 Shloka 33

Sanskrit Shlok 1.33:
येषामर्थे काङ्क्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च।
त इमेऽवस्थिता युद्धे प्राणांस्त्यक्त्वा धनानि च॥1.33॥

Transliteration:
Yeṣhām arthe kāṅkṣhitaṁ no rājyam bhogāḥ sukhāni cha।
Ta ime’vasthitā yuddhe prāṇāṁs tyaktvā dhanāni cha॥1.33॥

Translation:
"For whose sake we desire kingdom, enjoyments, and pleasures, they are standing here in battle, having renounced their lives and wealth."

Hindi Translation:
अर्जुन श्रीकृष्ण से पूछ रहे हैं कि 'जिनके लिए हम राज्य, भोग और सुख चाहते हैं, वे ही अपने जीवन और धन का त्याग करके यहाँ युद्ध में खड़े हैं।'

Explanation:
In this verse, Arjuna continues his emotional outpouring to Krishna. He reflects on the futility of fighting a war against his own family members and loved ones. Arjuna laments that the very people for whom he desires wealth, pleasure, and kingdom are present on the battlefield, prepared to risk their lives. This deepens his moral conflict, making him question the justification of war and the value of material gains.
This shloka is a part of Arjuna's broader argument about the apparent pointlessness of war when it involves the destruction of one's own kin and the resulting sorrow. It sets the stage for the spiritual teachings that Krishna imparts later in the Gita.
