श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता – अध्याय 2, श्लोक 21
(Sankhya Yoga – आत्मा का ज्ञान)
श्लोक (Sanskrit):
वेदाविनाशिनं नित्यं य एनमजमव्ययम्।
कथं स पुरुषः पार्थ कं घातयति हन्ति कम्॥2.21॥

Transliteration:
vedāvināśinaṁ nityaṁ ya enaṁ ajam avyayam ।
kathaṁ sa puruṣaḥ pārtha kaṁ ghātayati hanti kam ॥2.21॥

🇮🇳 Hindi Translation (अनुवाद):
हे पार्थ (अर्जुन)! जो यह जानता है कि आत्मा अविनाशी, नित्य, अजन्मा और अव्यय (जो कभी नष्ट नहीं होती) है,
वह पुरुष कैसे किसी को मार सकता है या किसी से मरवा सकता है?

English Translation:
O Arjuna! He who knows the soul to be indestructible, eternal, unborn, and immutable — how can that person think that he kills anyone or causes anyone to be killed?

Explanation in English:
In this verse, Lord Krishna emphasizes that true knowledge of the soul removes all misunderstanding about killing and death.
• The soul (Ātman) is indestructible, eternal, unborn, and unchanging.
• Therefore, no one can kill or be killed in the true sense.
• The act of “killing” refers only to the body, not to the soul.
• A wise person (tattva-darśī), who understands this eternal truth, does not grieve for the death of anyone, because he knows that the soul is beyond destruction.
The enlightened person sees that the soul never dies — only the outer garment of the body is discarded, while the true self continues its journey.

व्याख्या हिन्दी में:
भगवान श्रीकृष्ण इस श्लोक में अर्जुन को समझाते हैं कि —
• जो व्यक्ति यह जानता है कि आत्मा नित्य, अजन्मा और अविनाशी है, वह किसी की मृत्यु या हत्या का शोक नहीं करता।
• मारने या मारे जाने का कार्य केवल शरीर के स्तर पर होता है, आत्मा इन सब से परे है।
• इसलिए जो तत्वदर्शी है, वह जानता है कि कोई भी वास्तव में किसी को नहीं मारता, क्योंकि आत्मा का विनाश असंभव है। इस ज्ञान से मनुष्य मोह, भय और शोक से मुक्त होकर अपना कर्तव्य धर्म निभा सकता है।

भावार्थ (Essence):
• आत्मा अविनाशी और नित्य है — उसे कोई नहीं मार सकता।
• शरीर नष्ट होता है, आत्मा नहीं।
• जो इस सत्य को जान लेता है, वह कर्तव्य के पालन में दृढ़ रहता है, बिना किसी शोक के।
“He who knows the soul as eternal and indestructible realizes that no one truly kills or is killed.”
