श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता – अध्याय 2, श्लोक 22
(Sankhya Yoga – आत्मा का ज्ञान)
श्लोक (Sanskrit):
वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि।
तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णान् अन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही॥2.22॥

Transliteration:
vāsāṁsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya navāni gṛhṇāti naro ’parāṇi
tathā śarīrāṇi vihāya jīrṇān anyāni saṁyāti navāni dehī

Hindi Translation (अनुवाद):
जैसे मनुष्य पुराने वस्त्रों को त्यागकर नए वस्त्र धारण करता है,
उसी प्रकार आत्मा पुराने (जीर्ण) शरीर को छोड़कर नए शरीर को धारण करती है।

English Translation:
Just as a person discards worn-out clothes and puts on new ones,
similarly, the soul leaves old bodies and takes on new bodies.

Explanation in English:
In this verse, Lord Krishna uses a simple and powerful analogy to explain the process of rebirth (transmigration of the soul):
The body is compared to clothing, and the soul (Ātman) is like the person wearing those clothes.
When clothes become old or unusable, we replace them with new ones.
In the same way, when the body becomes old or dies, the soul leaves it and takes a new body.
The soul is constant, only the body changes.
This teaching helps remove the fear of death and shows that death is not the end, but simply a transition or change.

व्याख्या हिन्दी में:
इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण आत्मा के शरीर परिवर्तन (पुनर्जन्म) को बहुत सरल उदाहरण से समझाते हैं —
जैसे मनुष्य पुराने कपड़ों को छोड़कर नए कपड़े पहनता है,
वैसे ही आत्मा पुराने शरीर को त्यागकर नया शरीर धारण करती है।
इसका अर्थ है कि:
शरीर नश्वर (नष्ट होने वाला) है।
आत्मा अमर और शाश्वत है।
मृत्यु केवल एक परिवर्तन (change) है, अंत नहीं।
इस ज्ञान से मनुष्य को मृत्यु का भय नहीं रहता और वह जीवन को सही दृष्टि से समझता है।

भावार्थ (Essence):
शरीर केवल एक वस्त्र (garment) है, आत्मा असली पहचान है।
मृत्यु केवल शरीर का परिवर्तन है, आत्मा का नहीं।
आत्मा नित्य, शाश्वत और अविनाशी है।
“Just as we change clothes, the soul changes bodies — it never dies.”

गीता में उपदेश सुनाया, धर्म युद्ध को धर्म बताया। कर्म तू कर मत रख फल की इच्छा, यह सन्देश तुम्ही से पाया।
