📜 श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता – अध्याय 2, श्लोक 20

(Sankhya Yoga – आत्मा का ज्ञान)

श्लोक (Sanskrit):

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचिन् नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः।
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे॥

🔤 Transliteration:
na jāyate mriyate vā kadācin nāyaṁ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ
ajo nityaḥ śāśvato ’yaṁ purāṇo na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre

🇮🇳 Hindi Translation (अनुवाद):
आत्मा न कभी जन्म लेती है, न कभी मरती है। वह न तो पहले नहीं थी, और न ही भविष्य में कभी नहीं होगी — वह सदा रहती है। वह अजन्मा, नित्य, शाश्वत और पुरातन है। शरीर के नष्ट हो जाने पर भी आत्मा का विनाश नहीं होता।

🌍 English Translation:
The soul is never born, nor does it ever die. It has not come into being, nor will it ever come into being again. It is unborn, eternal, everlasting, and ancient. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.

🧘 Explanation in English:
This is one of the most profound verses in the Bhagavad Gita, where Lord Krishna reveals the eternal nature of the soul (Ātman).
The soul (Ātman) is not created and therefore cannot be destroyed. Birth and death apply only to the body, not to the self. The soul is described as: Ajaḥ (unborn) – it has no beginning. Nityaḥ (eternal) – it always exists. Śāśvataḥ (everlasting) – it never changes or decays. Purāṇaḥ (ancient) – it has existed forever.
Even when the body perishes, the soul remains unaffected, like the sky which is not destroyed even if the clouds disappear.
🌿 The soul is beyond time and space — it never began and will never end. Understanding this truth removes the fear of death and leads to spiritual peace.

व्याख्या हिन्दी में:
इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण आत्मा की अमरता और नित्य स्वरूप का विस्तार से वर्णन करते हैं —
आत्मा का न जन्म होता है, न मृत्यु। वह हमेशा से है और हमेशा रहेगी। शरीर बदलता है, लेकिन आत्मा अपरिवर्तनीय रहती है। आत्मा अजन्मा (कभी उत्पन्न नहीं हुई), नित्य (सदैव विद्यमान), शाश्वत (स्थायी) और पुरातन (सनातन) है। जब शरीर नष्ट होता है, तब भी आत्मा का नाश नहीं होता।
👉 इस सत्य को जानकर मनुष्य को मृत्यु, शोक और भय से मुक्त होना चाहिए। क्योंकि मृत्यु केवल शरीर की घटना है, आत्मा का अंत नहीं।

✨ भावार्थ (Essence):
आत्मा नित्य, अजन्मा और अविनाशी है।
जन्म और मृत्यु केवल शरीर के लिए हैं, आत्मा के लिए नहीं।
जो इस सत्य को समझ लेता है, वह मृत्यु से निर्भय और शांतचित्त हो जाता है।
