Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2 Shloka 23

श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता – अध्याय 2, श्लोक 23
(Sankhya Yoga – आत्मा का ज्ञान)
श्लोक (Sanskrit):
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः॥2.23॥

Transliteration:
nainaṁ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ
na cainaṁ kledayanty āpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ

Hindi Translation (अनुवाद):
आत्मा को शस्त्र काट नहीं सकते,अग्नि उसे जला नहीं सकती। जल उसे भिगो नहीं सकता,और वायु उसे सुखा नहीं सकती।

English Translation:
The soul cannot be cut by weapons, burned by fire, wetted by water, or dried by the wind.

Explanation in English:
In this verse, Lord Krishna describes the indestructible and eternal nature of the soul (Ātman) using the four natural elements: Weapons cannot cut the soul. Fire cannot burn it. Water cannot wet or dissolve it. Wind cannot dry it.
These examples show that the soul is beyond all material forces and elements. Everything material can be destroyed in some way, but the soul is untouched and eternal.
The soul is not a physical object; therefore, no physical force can harm it. Krishna explains this to remove Arjuna’s fear and sorrow regarding death and destruction in battle.

व्याख्या हिन्दी में:
इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण आत्मा की अविनाशी शक्ति का वर्णन करते हैं। आत्मा को कोई शस्त्र काट नहीं सकता। अग्नि उसे जला नहीं सकती। जल उसे गीला नहीं कर सकता। वायु उसे सुखा नहीं सकती।
अर्थात आत्मा किसी भी भौतिक तत्व से प्रभावित नहीं होती। वह शरीर से परे, नित्य, अमर और अविनाशी है। जिस प्रकार शरीर पंचतत्वों से बना है और नष्ट हो जाता है, वैसे आत्मा इन तत्वों से परे होने के कारण कभी नष्ट नहीं होती।

भावार्थ (Essence):
आत्मा किसी भी भौतिक शक्ति से नष्ट नहीं की जा सकती।
वह अमर, अचल और शाश्वत है।
मृत्यु केवल शरीर का अंत है, आत्मा का नहीं।

“Weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it — the soul is eternal and beyond destruction.”

गीता में उपदेश सुनाया, धर्म युद्ध को धर्म बताया। कर्म तू कर मत रख फल की इच्छा, यह सन्देश तुम्ही से पाया।
